A short news briefing every morning, free with Grok
Let Grok gather the main news for you every morning, in plain language and with links to the source. You set it up once, in about 5 minutes.
- ToolGrok (free account)
- CostFree: scheduled Automations are included in the free version
- TimeAbout 5 minutes
What’s in it for you?
- No need to search every day: the briefing is ready for you.
- You choose the topics: your country, your town, sport, the weather or your hobby.
- Grok searches the web and X live and adds the links, so you can read on yourself.
How to get started
Open Grok
Go to grok.com or open the Grok app on your smartphone (iPhone or Android). Type the address yourself and don’t click ads in Google. Sign in or create a free account.
Just ask in the chat
You don’t need to set anything up. Type your task and say when Grok should do it. Grok then turns it into an ‘Automation’: a task that runs at a set time.
Instruction to copyEvery morning at 8 am, give me the main news from [my country] in 5 short points, in simple language. Add the link to the source for each point.
Check the schedule
Grok shows when the task runs. You can check and change everything on the Automations page (grok.com/automations). There you also choose how you get the result: by email, an app notification, both or neither.
Try it straight away
Don’t wait until tomorrow. On the Automations page you can also run a task right now (‘Run now’). Not quite right? Say what should be better in the same chat.
Instruction to copyMake the briefing shorter and add 2 news items from [your town or region].
Pause or stop
On holiday or read enough? You can pause, change or delete an Automation whenever you like.
More ideas for every morning
Every morning at 7.30 am, give me the weather for [town] and tell me whether I need an umbrella.
Every Monday, give me the 3 most important news items about [hobby, e.g. gardening or cycling], with links.
Other tools that can do this
- ChatGPT: Free with a scheduled task: up to 3 tasks at once, at most once a day, in a rough time window (morning, afternoon or night). Get started: create an account.
- Gemini: Free with scheduled actions, up to 10 at once. Google is rolling this out gradually, so you may not see it yet. Create an account.
Safety tip
A summary can get something wrong or leave things out. For important news, read the article itself, and never put personal details in a scheduled task.
